Cavan Gardaí detected a number of driving offences over the bank holiday weekend, which will result in court appearances for the drivers concerned. On Saturday, the driver of a people carrier in Cootehill was found to have neither a driving licence nor insurance and has subsequently been charged to court. On the same day in Cootehill, Cavan Roads Policing Unit stopped a car on the Oldbridge Road and discovered the learner driver was not accompanied and had no NCT.
Checks also proved the driver and vehicle's insurance had been cancelled. A roadside oral fluid test revealed the driver was driving under the influence of cannabis. The driver was arrested, blood samples taken for further tests and the vehicle detained by Gardaí. The driver was issued with fixed charge penalty notices and was charged to court at a later date.
