The country's response to Covid-19 has been described as "over cautious and too slow" by a local Senator.
Robbie Gallagher has called for rapid antigen testing to be used to allow businesses to reopen fully and bring some normality back to the country.
Speaking in the Seanad, he cited Dr Michael Ryan from the WHO who warned countries about trying to achieve perfection during the pandemic, describing it as the "enemy of the good".
Senator Gallagher cited businesses, including some in Monaghan, who have been using rapid antigen testing and have described it as a "useful tool".
But he said the Government has done little to introduce it in Ireland, despite a number of other countries rolling them out.
