The count for the three electoral areas in Monaghan completed yesterday evening with18 seats now filled.
Sinn Féin have bucked the national trend claiming eight of the 18 seats available .
Fine Gael ran 6 candidates and all have been returned to Monaghan County Council.
While Fianna Fáil saw 3 people elected out of 8 candidates running across the three local electoral areas in Monaghan.
The final three candidates were elected in Bailieborough-Cootehill, meaning all councillors to take up their seats for the next term of Cavan County Council are now in situ.
While none of the candidates met the 1716 quota, the three with the most votes were elected.
Late last night Sinn Féin’s Paddy McDonald lost the council seat he has held for two decades in the Bailieboro Cootehill Municipal District.
The last remaining seats went to Fianna Fáíl newcomer Niall Smith, with Fianna Fáil's Aiden Fitzpatrick missing out in the early hours of this morning.
