Sinn Fein members of Monaghan County Council put forward a motion this month that is set to benefit local companies when it comes to large-scale capital projects.
It's a welcome development and one that received unanimous support when it was put forward for consideration last week.
Sinn Fein Councillor Colm Carthy said the motion is designed around a weighted scoring mechanism around all contributing factors such as staff travelling to the location and the likes of materials travelling a fair distance to the site.
Capital projects over a certain amount require public tendering and can be Europe wide.
The Carrickmacross Councillor says he wants to see it being EU law that you would have to take all considerations prior to offering contracts under capital projects.
Councillor Carthy says this will in turn mean our local economy will benefit from this development.
