Councillors in Monaghan have approved plans to 'delist' the birthplace of Charles Gavan Duffy.
It's planned the site will be demolished as part of the Dublin Street regeneration plans.
Work is ongoing on the planning for the Dublin Street and Backlands project and Councillors this week approved the removal of Number 10 Dublin Street from the list of protected structures.
Charles Gavan Duffy was a prominent Irish nationalist and Young Irishman, who became Premier of the Australian state of Victoria after his emigration.
A report commissioned by the County Council found the building was of little architectural significance, with "ill-considered alterations".
Councillors unanimously backed the plan but Councillor Seán Conlon told the meeting he regretted not bringing forward proposals to alter the plans earlier.
He said the demolition of other buildings on the street should have been considered, with Number 10 incorporated into the plans for the civic plaza.
Over €13 million was announced for the project in March, with design works continuing.
