A Monaghan councillor is on a mission to get more women involved in politics.
Councillor Aoife McCooey is in her final year of teacher training in Dublin and was most recently elected Leas Cathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD and also Monaghan County Council.
The Fianna Fáil representative also signed up to take part in a new EU documentary, commissioned by the alliance of Liberal Democrats Europe.
Councillor McCooey who is a member of the European Women's Academy, says the programme is based around female empowerment and getting more women elected at every level of Government across Europe.
Speaking to Northern Sound, she hopes her role in the documentary and as Leas Cathaoirleach will provide a "great opportunity" to bring more women into council chambers:
