Concerns over the lack of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in the county were raised during this week's meeting of the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District.
Cllr Brendan Fay highlighted how the expectation by the Government to have one million electric vehicles in operation by 2030 meant that charging points were now necessary throughout Co Cavan.
Those gathered heard how works on a charging point had been initiated in Belturbet about three years ago - at the post office - but that once ancillary works were completed, the project was abandoned and a charging point was never put in place.
Cllr Fay said there must be charging points for electric vehicles in every single town in the county.
He highlighted how there is currently just one charging point in Cavan town and pointed out that with one million electric vehicles expected to be on the road by 2030, a lot of work would need to be done locally to ensure that the necessary infrastructure was in place to meet demand.
Cllr John Paul Feely then highlighted the importance of charging points in terms of assisting with the county's endeavours to reach carbon neutral status for a geopark.
