A local councillor has expressed concern that "we will be talking about flooding in Monaghan Town for years to come".
At this week's Monaghan MD meeting, councillors made enquiries about flood remediation works by Monaghan Town Shopping Centre.
The area was highlighted as an area of immediate concern in 2001, but wasn't added to a national priority list.
€400,000 in funding has been allocated, but councillor Brian McKenna say the works will cost around €13 million and that the €400,000 will only cover a report on design works.
In September of last year, German retailer Aldi halted plans for a store in Monaghan town after talks with the local authority on flood mitigation works stalled.
