Cavan County Council says "unauthorised parking" at taxi stand spaces is monitored and appropriate action is taken where necessary.
However, the Local Authority acknowledges that it is "not possible to maintain constant surveillance of these sites".
The Statement from the Local Authority follows a claim by a Cavan taxi driver that a lack of taxi availability in Cavan Town is the Council's fault.
Patrick Coyle, from Bugsy's Cabs in Cavan town, told The Wider View that more enforcement is needed to tackle private cars parking in the local taxi ranks.
Mr Coyle said the situation is making it impossible for drivers to track down potential customers.
He added that a 24 hour taxi rank located more centrally to Cavan town would alleviate concerns, as well as proper signage to let people know they cannot park in designated taxi stands.
In a statement to Northern Sound, the County Council said all taxi stands are clearly marked and Community Parking warden monitor these locations.
There are four approved taxi stands in Cavan Town, which provide a combined 18 designated taxi stand spaces.
The County Council says four of these spaces - those at Main Street Car Park and Church Street - are in operation 24 hours a day.
However, the statement adds that "it is not possible to maintain constant surveillance of these sites".
