Monaghan County Council has refused planning permission for a proposed development that would have seen the construction of 20 social housing units in Ballinode.
The project would have seen the detached and semi-detached houses built on lands adjacent to Sean Mhuilean in the village
However, the Council deemed the application to be "contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area".
It added that "concerns" regarding the proposed site entrance "have not been satisfactorily addressed" and said the proposed main public open space area was "substandard and unacceptable".
