Cavan County Council is to write to Fáilte Ireland to express its concern that "traditional pubs" are excluded from its Outdoor Dining Enhancement scheme.
The scheme provides funding of up to €4,000 for tourism and hospitality businesses to develop their own outdoor seating capacity.
However, so-called "traditional" non-food serving pubs are not included in the scheme.
At a recent Cavan County Council meeting, Fianna Fáil's Aidan Fitzpatrick passed a motion calling for the scheme to be expanded to include these businesses.
It was seconded by councillor Brendan Faye, who said the scheme is facilitating an "us versus them" scenario in hospitality.
He successfully proposed an amendment calling for the motion to be forwarded to all councils.
