Cavan County Council has signed contracts with local firm Crosserlough Construction for the development of seven new social houses at Páirceanna an Bhaile in Ballyhaise.
The development consists of seven fully serviced two-storey houses with parking and all ancillary services, five of which are two-bed and the remaining two, three-beds. The new homes have been designed by Butlersbridge-based Michael Fitzpatrick Architects. Other consultants involved in the scheme include Renaissance Engineering Ltd, Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers Ltd, and KSN Construction Consultants.
Signing contracts for the new development at Courthouse, Cavan, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr T P O'Reilly said he was particularly pleased that local firms are involved in bringing the project to fruition, with Cavan benefitting "on the double". Construction is expected to commence in October and the scheme is expected to be completed by end-2025.
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Eoin Doyle, said the project was the latest in a series of significant housing developments undertaken by Cavan County Council in recent years, which has seen the local authority's housing stock increase to 2,186 units.
"Under the Government's 'Housing for All' policy, Cavan County Council has engaged in a concerted effort to ramp up our housing programme, and has already delivered 274 'new-build' houses since 2019, returning a further 326 vacant units to occupation," said Mr Doyle.
"I want to acknowledge the key role played in this fine development by Director of Service Lynda McGavigan, Senior Engineer John Wilson, Senior Project Manager Jonathan Condell, and Project Manager Brendan McGourty, as well as the design and consultant teams. I want to also highlight the continued efforts of our elected members whose guidance and support are crucial to this ambitious housing programme. I look forward to working with Crosserlough Construction to deliver this much-needed social housing for the people of Cavan, added Mr Doyle. The total construction cost of the seven units is €1.5 million, exclusive of VAT.
