Monaghan County Council has signed a contract for the construction of 72 new homes in Monaghan Town. The homes are being developed for local people on the social housing waiting list.
Following a competitive tendering process, GEDA Construction have been chosen to construct the houses in two sites. 51 homes will be built in Slí Lorcan, Latlorcan and the remaining 21 will be developed in Slí na Coile in Mullaghmat. Cathaoirleach for Monaghan County Council Cllr. Paul Gibbons said he looks forward to the house being allocated to those on the social housing waiting lists."
GEDA have teamed up with a local timber frame manufacturing company IJM Timber Engineering Ltd to deliver these houses. The use of timber in the construction process not only leads to faster completion times but allows the Council's Housing Section to utlilise an accelerated design and build contract which encourages modern methods of construction. The first phase of houses is expected to be delivered within 12 months.
Mr. Damian Murray from GEDA said he and his staff "look forward to working closely with the Housing team in Monaghan County Council in delivering the new homes."
