Contractors have, this week, moved onto the site for the new Ballybay Primary Care centre. Once open, it will provide a full range of care services including GP; Dietetics; Occupational Therapy; Physiotherapy; Public Health Nursing; Social Work and Speech and Language Therapy.
It has also been confirmed in recent days that a planning application has been lodged with Monaghan County Council for the development of the Castleblayney Primary Care Centre. It is expected that these construction works will begin later this year.
Local Councillor, Sean Gilliland, says the facility will have a similar construction period to the Ballybay centre and will provide a similar range of services.
"The project will see many much needed new medical services brought to Ballybay to serve its community. In March 2019, I launched the Master plan for Ballybay in conjunction with the plan for the new primary care centre.
Works got under way to provide extra car parking facilities for the town and to tackle unfinished housing development. The car park which will serve the town and the new Primary Care unit has now been completed.
"The removal of an unfinished development was undertaken to provide housing for the elderly close to the primary care unit and town centre. Seven new houses are currently under construction and in keeping with our master plan, a new fire station is currently at tender stage for construction. Works will continue to tackle dereliction and vacant buildings in Ballybay," added Cllr Gilliland.
