It's hoped a contractor will be in place for the new Bailieborough Garda Station by the end of this year.
Public Works Minister Kevin Boxer Moran says "pre-qualification procedures" for a contractor are underway and are expected to be complete in the coming months.
He says it's hoped tenders for the project will also be advertised shortly, with a contract signed by year-end.
The project was first announced in 2007 as the current Garda Station in Bailiebrough isn't fit for purpose.
The Former National Irish Bank building in the town was bought by the OPW to house the new station.
It's expected construction and renovations will take 18 months to complete.
