A contract has been signed to bring the Castleblayney Market house to design stage.
Works have been ongoing at the derelict building since the roof was removed in 2019, with it being made structurally safe after fears of collapse.
Earlier this year, a report was published following public consultation, which saw the majority of people in the town were keen to see it restored.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council Aidan Campbell says this is the next step in bringing it back into use.
