A contract to carry out works at Bawnboy Garda Station is expected to soon be ready to be awarded.
It comes as the Office of Public Works confirmed that the tender evaluations for the west Cavan station have now been completed.
Closed as part of a cost-cutting move in 2013, a reopening of the building has been suggested since 2017.
An estimated €200,000 worth of works is needed, with the discovery of asbestos delaying the renovation.
The Department of Public Works says the tenders for the station have now been evaluated.
It's understood the next process of procurement involves informing unsuccessful tenderers of the final decision, before a contract is signed with the successful applicant.
A detailed timeline for when this next stage would begin wasn't made available, as it is the subject of ongoing discussions between An Garda Siochana and the Department.
