There's a call for more people to become Community First Responders to help those suffering cardiac arrest.
The HSE says they provide vital lifesaving CPR and defibrillator treatment to patients while an ambulance is on route.
First Responders defibrillated 198 patients last year, of whom 54 survived.
Consultant in Emergency Medicine Professor Conor Deasy is making this appeal:
"We're encouraging anyone that is interested in becoming a Community First Responder to get educated, and the can look up www.becomeafirstresponder.ie to find out what's required to learn how to become a First Responder, to learn chest compressions and how to use an AED."
