An event to be held in St. Macartan's College, Monaghan Town tomorrow will bring together an impressive group of local businesses from the construction and engineering sectors. Students and their parents are invited to attend the Building Our Future Engineering and Construction Event at the College from 10 am tomorrow, Wednesday, May, 22nd.
There they can meet and talk with representatives from local firms including Kingspan, Errigal Group, Go Solar, Active 8, CombiLift and the Tusker Construction Group. Members from Solas, Monaghan and Cavan Institiutes, Ulster University and DKIT will also be there to answer any querstions students may have about a career in the construction and engineering industries or the various affiliated businesses.
Gerry Reilly is a guidance counsellor at the college and also the National Secretary of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors. He says local businesses in the Northern Sound region tell him they cannot find enough trained staff for their construction and engineering companies here: "The word we're getting is that they just can't get enough workers," Mr Reilly told the Joe Finnegan Show, "They can't get enough trained, qualified workers so there;'s a big gap out there in the market, especially in the area of cyber security as well but, in the construction and general engineering areas, again, they can't get the workers."
