An outbreak of Covid-19 has been confirmed at Cavan General Hospital.
A letter has been sent to GPs in the area asking only urgent referrals are made into the facility.
The memo, sent by the Hospital’s General Manager, says its “outbreak committee” is meeting regularly and “all appropriate measures have been put in place”.
Northern Sound News has confirmed a number of nursing and admin staff and patients have tested positive for the virus and others are self-isolating as close contacts.
The hospital earlier this week suspended visiting in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus after an increase in Covid-19 cases in the region.
Management at Cavan Hospital and the RCSI Hospitals Group have been contacted for comment.
