Concerns raised over trolley numbers at Cavan Hospital

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says January was the worst month for overcrowding on record.

The issue of waiting on hospital trolleys in Cavan General Hospital was raised recently by a local councillor. Cllr Noel Connell brought the motion to the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council. He called on the local authority to write to the Health Minister and the HSE over the numbers waiting on trolleys. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says January was the worst month for overcrowding on record. INMO General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha says the HSE is failing to tackle the crisis due to its hiring ban.

In recent days high numbers of people have been waiting on trolleys at the local hospital. In Cavan General Hospital, 31 patients are awaiting treatment on trolleys so far today. Cllr Connell says he is very concerned over the current situation;
