"We don't want to be walking after a coffin just because Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) says we can't install ramps."
That's according to Cllr Brian McKenna, who like many others shared his concerns over the shocking incident in the village of Emyvale which seen a lorry crash into the front of a house on Friday morning.
The incident was discussed heavily at this morning's Monaghan Municipal District meeting.
According to local councillors, speed ramps installed at the entry of the village could help reduce further incidents, however the TII says this is "not possible" as it is deemed as a national road.
As a result, it was proposed that Monaghan MD call on the TII to take immediate action to ensure that flashing speed indicator lights are returned as a matter of urgency and that further steps are taken to slow traffic entering the North side of Emyvale village also known as Steele's corner.
Senior Engineer at Monaghan County Council, Gareth McMahon, also assured those in attendance that the council had requested for the TII's Road Safety Section to meet with them "as soon as possible" over the incident.
