A Monaghan councillor has highlighted concerns over issues in relation to accessing ambulance services in Monaghan.
Councillor Paudge Connolly proposed to meet with the Chief Ambulance Officer and also Health Minister Stephen Donnelly in relation to the previous commitments given to the ambulance service.
He says local people are having to wait for 'hours on end', even when accidents occur only minutes away from the Monaghan ambulance base.
While commending the efforts of hard-working healthcare staff, Councillor Connolly said concerns are "no reflection on staff", and more to do with policy.
He described the system as "broken" and says it is not designed for rural areas like Monaghan.
Councillor Connolly added that the current situation is only "gambling" with the lives of local people, and highlighted the importance of ambulance services attending emergency calls within the 'golden hour' which can help prevent fatalities and further injury.
