Garda Superintendent Pat O'Connell has raised his concerns in relation to statistics for drug driving across Co Monaghan.
Figures issued by Gardai at a recent sitting of the Monaghan Joint Policing Committee show drug driving detections were up from 37 in 2021 to 49 in 2022.
Superintendent O'Connell added that this was also in excess of 200 incidents for the year.
Meanwhile, improved roadside testing procedures for drug driving will be implemented during the Gardai's heightened road safety campaign in Co Monaghan over the Christmas and New Year period.
According to Superintendent O'Connell this will enhance their detection rates for drug driving over the holiday period.
