Confusion has grown among parents of children with special needs in Monaghan as some of them fear that if they don't accept the site chosen for a new temporary special school in Castleblayney, they may jeopardise the project altogether. Concern has grown after the Special Needs Active Parents support group gave a presentation to Monaghan County Council this week, when they told councillors they had concerns about the building earmarked as the site for the new school.
SNAP told councillors the old 'Tech' building was not suitable for children with additional needs like mobility issues because it's on a hill, there is no space for outdoor play areas and several other practical reasons. CMETB was recently appointed patron of the new school, which was announced for County Monaghan in October with an opening date of September 2025 given.
Now, SNAP want to allay parents' fears by explaining the current situation. Chairperson of the group, Paddy McAloon told Northern Sound SNAP are delighted that CMETB is to be patron and with the 'Blayney location, their only concerns are with the particular building:
