An investigation's underway after the death of a White-tailed Eagle which was part of a re-introduction programme by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The healthy year-old male had been brought in as a chick from Norway in 2021 - but was found poisoned on farmland in Cavan last November.
Concerns were raised when the eagle's satellite tag showed the bird wasn't moving.
A ranger tracked and found the body and tests confirmed the bird was killed by an illegal poison which has been banned here for over a decade.
The local ranger collected the bird's body on agricultural land in Cavan and following a range of tests confirmed it had been poisoned with an illegal substance, known as Carbofuran.
