There are concerns over the close proximity to the town of the proposed Virginia by-pass route.
Yesterday the emerging preferred route option was announced, and is now available to view and for feedback at N3virginiabypass.ie.
However, there was a mixed reaction with some members of the community worried it would impact businesses and restrict development.

Chair of Virginia Development Association, Patrick Farrelly says some were surprised the route closest to the town was chosen:
However, local councillor TP O'Reilly says they are quite set on this route and they were never going to keep everyone happy:
