A community group with concerns over possible government plans to use Castlesaunderson as accommodation for Ukrainian refugees says, for them, "lack of communication and consultation is the singular issue."
The ‘Castlesaunderson Community and Friends’ group say if Scouting Ireland or the Department of Integration had done things properly, they should've hired a hall, called a meeting, provided information and held a discussion on the proposals and this would've allayed people's fears. A spokesperson for the group told Northern Sound speculation has grown, where there has been an absence of information.
The local group says they welcome women, children and families fleeing the war torn country of Ukraine and have done so in the community since the start of the war almost two years ago. He also said he hopes government officials will act in good faith regarding one of the few facilities available to Belturbet and the surrounding area. The group plans to meet at the main gates of Castlesaunderson this Sunday to consolidate their objections to the way in which the government and Scouting Ireland has handled the situation to date
