A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns in relation to diesel laundering across the region. Concerns on behalf of Fine Gael's Aidan Campbell emerged after it was revealed that Monaghan County Council dealt with 21 separate incidents of diesel laundering waste dumping across the county in 2022. Fifteen of the waste dumping incidents occurred in the Donaghmoyne area, meanwhile incidents were also recorded at Broomfield, Inniskeen and Oram.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Campbell revealed that as a result of the incidents, approximately 63,000 kgs. of waste was collected from the locations in question. He described the incidents as "reckless" and has called for more to be done to stop these criminals.
"This seems to happen in the dark of the night," explained Cllr Campbell. "I think there should be covert operations put in place to see if these people can be caught. It seems these people always have a way to get around the legislation and laws which are in place. I also think there needs to be some sort of a system in place were the dye can't be taken out and it can't be changed."
