Commencement notices on the rise locally

The number of commencement notices issued in the Northern Sound region has increased since last year. A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out works or a material change of use to a building.

In quarter 1 of this year, 95 notices were issued in Cavan, and 81 in Monaghan. These are both significant increases on quarter 1 of last year, where 64 notices were issued in Monaghan, and 48 in Cavan. Nationally, 4,619 commencement notices have been issued by local authorities so far this year.
