A nationwide status yellow low temperature and ice warning, as well as an alert for fog, will be in place over the weekend.
The warning will run until midday on Sunday. According to Met Eireann forecaster and Co Monaghan man, Gerry Murphy temperatures could reach minus 5 over the next few days and struggle to go above 1 or 2 degrees during the day.
He says this will allow for persistent frost with very cold temperatures across Cavan and Monaghan up until and including Tuesday next. The forecaster says there could be slippery conditions on our roads so caution is needed.
The Magheracloone native says weather models suggest milder wetter weather pushing in from Wednesday but until then we can expect very low temperatures over the coming weekend.
