A Co Monaghan hemp store has been hit with a closure order by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
Healing with Hemp, which trades as Kama Hemp in Clones, cultivates hemp and began food production in 2013.
Last November, the closure order on Kama Hemp meant that all activities related to its food business, including activity on its internet and social media sites, had to cease with immediate effect.
The HSE deemed that "possible food safety hazards associated with the production of alcohol and use of such alcohol in the production process for CBD oil had not been considered".
The HSE added that "novel foods, specifically CBD oil produced using alcohol in the production process, which had not been authorised and included in the European Union list were being placed on the market".
It was also found that "effective traceability systems and procedures" were not in place and that food handlers had "not been trained in food hygiene matters commensurate with their work".
On the third of December last, the HSE also issued a prohibition order on dried hemp and alcohol laden hemp stored at the property, meaning it must not be used for human consumption with immediate effect.
