A Co Cavan centre that caters to adults with disabilities and provides palliative care was found to be "not compliant" in the area of health care during a short notice announced HIQA inspection in August.
While the inspector said "the atmosphere was relaxed and calm" during the inspection of St Christopher's Centre, the inspector said "some improvements were required under health care".
St Christopher's Centre provides 24-hour nursing care and can accommodate up to 11 male and female residents.
The inspector says in one area, care is provided to eight residents who receive long-term residential care, while in the other area, palliative care is provided for up to three residents.
While some residents reported that they would love to live at home, they told the inspector that the centre "was the next best thing"
Overall, residents said "they were happy living in the centre and they especially loved the staff".
However, the centre was deemed "not compliant" regarding health care.
The inspector said "it was not clear whether all residents had been offered or had partaken in national health screening services".
It was also noted that "there was no health care plan in place for one identified health care need for a resident".
In response, St Christopher's Centre "ensured all residents have registered to partake in National Health Screening Services, and this was completed in early September.
A health care plan for the additional identified health care need of one resident was also completed in August.
