A Co Cavan care facility was found to be "non-compliant" in four areas during an unannounced HIQA inspection in February.
The Virginia Community Health Centre provides 24-hour nursing care to 56 residents who require long and short-term care
A non-compliant judgment means the provider has not complied with a regulation and considerable action is required.
Where the non-compliance does not pose a risk to the safety, health and welfare of residents, it is risk-rated orange, which is the case for the four "non-compliant" findings in the Virginia Community Health Centre.
It was "non-compliant" regarding registration regulation, governance and management, residents' rights, and its premises.
With regards to the premises, the inspector deemed there to be insufficient shower and bathroom facilities, with nine residents using one shower room.
The inspector received communication following the inspection that plans were in line to address this issue.
The inspector also observed large cracks in a ceiling in one area, ceiling damage caused by a leak in a corridor and resident's bedroom, stained wall surfaces, and damaged floor surfaces.
When it came to residents' rights, the inspector found the configuration of some twin bedrooms did not allow for residents' privacy to be maintained, and residents in one ward had limited access to meaningful recreational activities.
And while the centre had a good history of consulting with residents in relation to how the centre is run, no resident meetings had been held since 2019.
Despite being non-compliant in these areas at the time of inspection, Virginia Community Health Centre was found to be "a good centre where residents were supported to live a good quality of life".
