An Irish athlete who hails from the Northern Sound region will carry the Irish flag at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games opening ceremony this afternoon.
Britney Arendse, who was born in South Africa but now lives in Mullagh, Co. Cavan, has been chosen as the Irish team's flagbearer, alongside Killarney high-jumper Jordan Lee.
A life-changing road traffic collision in 2009 left Britney with spinal cord injuries and she now requires the use of a wheelchair.
She took up powerlifting at the age of 16 and is the first woman to represent Ireland in the sport at the Paralympics.
The opening ceremony will be aired live on RTÉ 2 this morning, with coverage starting at 11:50 am.
