Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board are currently managing €193 million in capital projects across Cavan and Monaghan. The most recent meeting of CMETB was given an update on the land and building developments in the Northern Sound region, which have been funded by the Department of Education and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Significant building expansions which are currently in development include extensions at Virginia College, Inver College Carrickmacross, Beech Hill College Monaghan, Coláiste Dún an Rí Kingscourt, and Breifne College Cavan.
The Beech Hill College project has received approval to proceed to tender for a contractor, which shall progress in August 2024. Planning permission has been granted for 23 general classrooms, two SEN classrooms and various specialist classrooms like an engineering and home economics room at Coláiste Dún an Rí in Kingscourt
Planning permission was approved for an extension at Castleblayney College and design work has been completed for the delivery of building extensions at Breifne College, Cavan. Meanwhile, works are nearing completion at St. Mogue's College, Bawnboy to erect a modular unit for the expansion of accommodation at the school which will be available to students by September.
