The Department of Education have formally requested that Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) act as the patron body for a new special school in County Monaghan, to be established in Castleblayney.
Patronage was agreed at the December meeting of the ETB Board.
In October, Minister Heather Humphreys announced plans for the school, which is set to open next year.
This will be the first dedicated special school in the county, catering for children and young people with complex special educational needs up to the age of 18.
The CMETB say they are delighted to undertake the role of patron body, furthering its commitment to inclusive education and supporting the diverse needs of students across the region.
Dr. Fiona McGrath, Chief Executive of CMETB, welcomed the announcement, stating the establishment of a new special school in County Monaghan marks a significant and positive milestone for education in the region.
