The CMETB has been awarded €211,000 in funding to assist third level students with online learning and will go towards laptops and other devices
It comes under a new nationwide fund for student devices worth €15 million announced by Minister, Simon Harris and is part of a larger €168 million package to help further and higher education sectors deal with the impacts of Covid-19.
Students from the region in higher education institutions experiencing exceptional financial need can apply for support through their local access office.
The devices will be distributed through targeted lending schemes run by the institutions and will be overseen by Student Access Offices.
In s statement6 to Shannonside Northern Sound local Minister Heather Humphreys said this investment is welcome as it will allow 16,700 students access laptops and will also go some way to bridging the digital divide, and ensure equality of access to education.
