The closure of Ulster Bank's branch network would be "devastating" for the local region.
Local TD Brendan Smith has called on the Minister for Finance to make clear to the bank the effect the closure would have on communities across the country.
Reports earlier this month said the bank's owner NatWest was considering closing all branches in the Republic and exiting the market.
It's branches in Northern Ireland would be unaffected but the four branches in Cavan and Monaghan would close.
Ulster Bank closed a number of branches in the Northern Sound region in recent years but it still has four branches in Cavan town, Monaghan town, Ballyconnell and Ballyjamesduff.
Speaking in the Dáil, Finance Minister Pascal Donohoe said he could not comment on speculation but he and his officials would watch developments carefully.
