A local teenager has put Monaghan on the map after he was crowned 'World's Strongest Teen' at a recent 'Strong Man' event in Glasgow. Conor Brady from Clones is the highest placed teenager to ever compete in the worldwide weightlifting competition.
Speaking to Northern Sound, 17-year-old Conor Brady said he has been "blown away" by the support he has received locally since winning the competition. The Largy College student revealed that he spent the last four months prior to the competition training 2-3 hours, four nights a week.
While a strict routine was a success for the local teen, Conor said it was important for him to stay focused and keeping going with that all important goal in mind.
"I've always had an interest in the gym and then I joined 'Strength Shed' and everyone was so supportive. The most supportive people that I've ever met in my life are from that gym. They all wanted me to compete. They actually said I would be banned from the gym if I didn't compete," laughed Conor.
"My coach Daniel McCarville from Smithborough who owns the gym that I train at. It is unbelievable. It's the best gym I've ever seen in terms of people and equipment, Daniel is an exceptional coach as well and I wouldn't of been able to do this without him."
