Members of the Ballybay/Clones Municipal District have unanimously supported plans proposed by Clones ICA Guild to honour community stalwart Mamo McDonald. The late Mamo McDonald lived in Clones most of her life and was a very active member of the community. Ms McDonald was a former National President of the Irish Countrywomen's Association and was a strong advocate for the rights of women and the aged.
The Clones guild of the ICA proposed that a plaque be put on a seat opposite Hickeys Chemist on the Diamond to commemorate Mamo and the life she led. The proposal which was brought before local representatives of the Ballybay/Clones MD received widespread support. At this week's meeting, Sinn Fein's Pat Treanor remembered the late Mamo McDonald as a "great lady" while Fine Gael's Richard Truell described her as a "stalwart" of Clones town.
