A Clones man, who is an amputee, is set to enter the Guinness Book Of Records after he successfully completed a truck pull.
Shane McLoughlin pulled a 45 foot, 18-ton lorry for 25 metres during the adjudication by the Guinness World Record Committee last week. The paralympian overcame many obstacles to meet the criteria to even make his record-breaking attempt but said the sense of achievement was worth it for him and the many local businesses who supported him.
While he successfully completed the truck pull, it will be next week before he gets official confirmation of his new record. Shane told Northern Sound the feat was about m,ore than just getting a world record for himself: "This is nothing to do with me," Shane told the Wider View Programme, "This is all to do with awareness., awareness for amputees around the world. We can do what able-bodied people can do. We can do what able-bodied people do so this is nothing to do with the Guinness Book of Records. This is to do with amputees. Able-bodied people think only they can do everything and we can't. But, we can. I've proven it."
