World Champion Shane McLoughlin from Clones will be officially conducted into the Guinness World of Records.

Shane McLoughlin from Clones has officially became 'World Champion' for the first person in the world as an amputee to pull an 18 tonne truck. Mr Loughlin was also informed that his recent accomplishment will be going into the Guinness World of Records.

Shane McLoughlin pulled a 45 foot, 18-ton lorry for 25 metres during the adjudication by the Guinness World Record Committee last week. The Paralympian overcame many obstacles to meet the criteria to even make his record-breaking attempt but said the sense of achievement was worth it for him and the many local businesses who supported him.

Shane previously told Northern Sound the feat was about more than just getting a world record for himself; "This is nothing to do with me. This is all to do with awareness., awareness for amputees around the world. We can do what able-bodied people can do. We can do what able-bodied people do so this is nothing to do with the Guinness Book of Records. This is to do with amputees. Able-bodied people think only they can do everything and we can't. But, we can. I've proven it."
