Cavan Councillor Sarah O’Reilly is in contention to take a seat in the Seanad.
The East Cavan woman has been a councillor in Cavan since 2016 and topped the poll in last year’s local elections in the Bailieboro/Cootehill Municipal District.
After count 7 of the Agricultural panel elections for the Seanad with counting continuing the local representative is on 62% and three of the 11 seats have been filled to date.
The Aontu representative for the region received over 58,000 first preference votes in the election which is sure to leave her in a prominent position in taking a seat in the Oireachtas.
Cllr O’Reilly narrowly missed out in the most recent general election at taking a seat in Cavan/Monaghan and had previously contested the 2020 general elections also.
