Cllr David Maxwell has confirmed to Northern Sound that he has put his name forward in the upcoming Fine Gael convention.
The Monaghan man has been a councillor for 21 years and confirmed that he officially put his name forward for a Dail bid. It comes after that shock announcement by Minister Heather Humphreys over the weekend that she won't contest the upcoming General Election.
Fine Gael are holding their convention for Cavan and Monaghan this Friday in the Kilmore Hotel. Cllr TP O'Reilly is set to run in the upcoming election for Cavan but with a two candidate strategy it's not clear who will be on the ticket for Monaghan as all Fine Gael councillors in the county have confirmed they are considering making a bid to take the seat that Heather Humphreys has held since 2011.
