The long-awaited children's respite centre for Co Monaghan was officially opened today. Minister for Disabilities Anne Rabbitte was in Urbalkirk just outside Monaghan Town to cut the ribbon. She was making good on a promise she made to Monaghan parents back in March.
During a meeting back then Anne Rabbitte committed to opening the new centre by October 1st and children with additional needs like autism have been attending the new Rainbow Lodge since that date. Anne Rabbitte told Northern Sound that respite is much more than just a break for parents. She also said her Fianna Fáil party colleagues in Monaghan and outgoing Fine Gael TD Minister Heather Humphreys "pestered" her to deliver the respite centre for their constituency.
