Enhancements to Gaelic Football were needed and referees must be given time to adjust.
That's the view of regular Cavan GAA commentator Damien Donohoe. New rule changes were approved last week, including the introduction of a 40 metre arc, where a point scored outside of it will be worth 2 points. Other new changes include teams keeping 3 players in the opposition half of the field at all times, 1v1 throw ins, and new punishments for dissent and delayed fouling. A free kick will be brought forward 50 metres if the guilty player is found to be delaying play restarting or displaying dissent towards match officials.
Cavan GAA commentator, Damien Donohoe, says a culture change is needed and referees must be given time to adjust to the new rules
"If we give referees the room to think instead of us as players and managers getting on their back and being aggressive towards them, I think they'll improve. I think they'll get more of these calls right. There is a mix, like all things change is always difficult and is always met with a little bit of wariness. At the end of the day, change was needed and it wasn't just small change".
