Changes to the Fair Deal scheme, which will benefit farming families in Cavan and Monaghan, are soon to become law.
Under amendments passed in the Seanad recently, annual contributions of 7.5 per cent on small farms and businesses will be capped at three years.
Currently only deductions on assets such as family homes are capped, with no limit on how long farming families must pay for nursing home care.
Local Fianna Fail Senator Robbie Gallagher says the change has been a long time coming for many.
