It’s hoped a new digital hub in Newbliss will save young people in rural Monaghan from needing to commute to cities.
Monaghan County Council recently approved plans to convert the former Courthouse in the village to a remote working and enterprise space.
The proposal to renovate and restore the former Council Offices received cross-party support.
The works will include the development of meeting rooms, offices and studio spaces, the demolition of a rear shed and the decontamination of the entire site if required.
In 2018 it was announced the old Courthouse was to be redesigned as an artist studio in partnership with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and the Arts Council.
That was included in a €300,000 upgrade programme, however those plans later fell through.
The latest planning approval was approved by Sinn Fein's Pat Treanor and seconded by Fine Gael's Richard Truell as a great advancement in remote working opportunities.
Funding submissions have now been made to the Department of Rural Affairs to cover the cost of the project.
Councillor Richard Truell says it can help keep the local economy alive.
