The Chair of the Oireachtas Committee for Media says nobody could justify or defend the pay of RTÉ's top stars.
Niamh Smyth added that RTÉ can't afford these "exorbitant salaries" given its "financial challenges".
RTÉ's top ten earners were paid a combined €9.5 million euro between 2017 and 2019.
The Fianna Fáil TD also accused RTÉ of failing to adapt to online streaming services and says the National Broadcaster hasn't moved along with the times.
While Deputy Smyth's committee doesn't have the scope to limit the pay of RTÉ staff, she says the public accounts committee has discussed the matter in recent weeks.
